Virtual Bloomsday

The past two weeks have been incredibly smoky and we were not sure if it would clear up in time for us to participate in the virtual Bloomsday event this weekend.  Luckily, we got in some rain which finally pushed the smoke to the east and this morning we were able to complete our walk with Corey.  We walked 7.46 miles (12 km) in 2:40:11 along Ruston Way from the Ram restaurant down to Owen Beach and back.  It was a lovely day with temps in the low 60's and dry.  We enjoyed views of the water and catching up with Corey & her wedding plans helped the time go by much faster.  It was fun to do and we hope that next year Bloomsday will not be virtual and we can do the event in Spokane.  We have reported our finish time and are looking forward to getting our finisher t-shirts in a few weeks.

Our official bib numbers.

At the half way mark we had water & snacks although we didn't pause the timer.

Still smiling at the end even though our feet were super sore!  My hair was a wild mess from the humidity.

Dahlia Garden

The five of us met up this morning and drove over to one of the older neighborhoods in Tacoma where we walked around oohing and aahing over the beautiful older homes that had breathtaking views of the sound.  Then we headed over to Pt. Defiance to check out the dahlia garden.  This is a trial garden which features new dahlia varieties that are judged to see if they can be considered  "show quality".  There were so many interesting dahlias in different colors, sizes and shapes.  I took too many pictures, but what else is new?  Afterward we checked out the small Japanese Garden then walked out onto the new pedestrian bridge that connects Pt. Defiance to Ruston which was really cool & afforded us views of the water & the mountain.   Then we stopped by Magical Sandwich Makers where we picked up some pretty magical sandwiches which we ate at a nearby park.  Soon we had to say good-bye to the kids, but it was a fun morning and I'm glad we got to spend some time together on this holiday.

I was trying to take a picture of just Corey but the other two photo bombed her!

I think this was my favorite because it was so different!  I also love pink flowers.

Scott didn't think this looked dahlia like at all.

Takes two to hug this giant tree!

On the pedestrian bridge.

There was a giant mural next to the sandwich shop.
