Day 42: Around the block

February decided to go out with a bang.  We hit 58 degrees today!  It was a lovely Friday afternoon, the kind that makes me dream of spring.  The sun got my gardening juices running, so I went out & worked in the yard, pruning my roses, picking up leftover leaves from the fall, and trimming some bushes.  I only stopped because the blue bin was filled to the brim!  Since I spent so much time in the yard we only had enough time for a short jaunt around the block.  Winston didn't mind, though.  He was just happy to get out & enjoy the sun.

I only got 2 of the 4 bushes trimmed.  I think I went a bit overboard, but they should come back.

My daffodils and Asiatic lilies are sprouting!

Day 39: Garfield Nature Park Walk

It's been little over a week since Winston & I have walked.  The weather has been too cold and rainy & I've been less than enthusiastic about having a wet dog smelling up my house.  So, he's been hanging out in the house, staring out the front window wondering if he was ever going to go for another walk.  Today it hit 52 degrees with a couple of sun breaks, just nice enough to lure me outdoors.

We stopped first at the little park on West Bay Drive.  It's a very small park, but just across the street is the Garfield Nature Trail.  The last time we came here, Winston & I didn't go down the trail because it was looking a tad sketchy.  It's right in the middle of the city & I wasn't sure who we would encounter.  Today Scott came along, so we decided it was safe to check it out.  It's a very short trail, just .35 miles end to end, in a deep ravine with a small creek meandering its length.  We were pleasantly surprised to find a total of 6 bridges in such a tiny area.

Winston's 'are you ever going to walk me?' face.
We had to drop Gabby off at dance first.

We didn't have his collar, so he had to wear his gentle leader, which he does not like at all.  Can you tell?

On the Garfield Nature Trail.  Bridge #1

He may look happy in this picture, but he really wasn't.  Winston hates getting his paws & belly wiped after walking.  That's what he gets for being such a low rider.

Redmond Volksmarch (#2)

Today Jennifer, Clarissa & I completed our second volksmarch for 2014 in Redmond, which was a new one to us.  The 7k route took us through the Redmond Town Center & a pretty park, along the Sammamish River Trail and then back.  We saw some ducks, lots of statues, a couple of bridges, the river & the Redmond City Hall.  I think I still prefer walking in the woods, but it was pretty scenic for an urban setting.   I had to break out all my rain gear today as it was very cold & very rainy (we even saw some snowflakes mixed in).  It was so cold & wet that, at the end,  I just headed straight to the car and totally forgot to take a picture of us in front of the Volksmarch flag, which is always our tradition & proof of our walk.  But I promise, we did complete it!  Afterwards we had lunch at  Flying Saucer Pizza which was pretty darn good.  On to the next!  Hopefully it will be a bit dryer and warmer.  Oh, spring, where art thou??

Bridge over Sammamish River

These ducks were in the water, then got out and ran away after I went down to take that bridge photo.  I guess they were mad at me for disturbing their peace.

Keechelus Lake Snowshoe with Yoh!

Today I went snowshoeing with my Yoh! group near Snoqualmie Pass at Hyak. We did about 4 miles and saw pretty views of Keechelus Lake. To see more pictures, click HERE.

Day 29: Walk around the Block

Just a quick walk around the block today because it was cold.  Brrr...I don't like the cold!

Day 28: Walk around Tumwater Falls Park

The sun came out again today, and even though it wasn't quite as warm as yesterday, we were not complaining.  It's always nice to get a reprieve, no matter how short, from the relentless gray skies.  Winston & I headed to one of our favorite parks, Tumwater Falls Park, to get in some exercise.  We walked the .6 mile loop with lots of stops for pictures & sniffing.

Winston with the first Totem Pole we came upon.

The falls were running high today.  Every time we come here, it always looks different.

My model & walking buddy.

You can see how high the river is.  Usually you can see much more of the fish ladders.

I always find it fascinating how trees can grow like that.  Lots of bare ground because they are removing the invasive ivy.

Obligatory bridge photo.

Day 27: Walk around Capitol Lake

Not really sure how it happened, but we ended up with a gorgeous day!  After Saturday evening's snow and rain/wind/cold these past 3 days, the sun was a welcome sight!  We hit the low 50's with a slight breeze, perfect weather for a slow saunter around Capitol Lake for Winston & me.  We saw lots of people milling around, and except for a couple of joggers, no one seemed to be in much of a hurry today.  Everyone was more than happy to just soak in the sun, including us.

Winston looks like he's scared a train is coming to squish him.  Luckily this track is no longer used.

Even this heron was soaking up the rays.
