Our second stop on the drive to Winthrop was at Thunder Knob Trail. When we arrived, the parking lot was full, but luckily someone pulled out right before we decided to give up. This was a longer hike and a bit more strenuous, but it was a good leg stretcher. In all we hiked 3.78 miles with 628 feet of elevation gain. Towards the end we were getting pretty cold, but luckily were able to finish before it was dark, and we made it to Winthrop a little past 6 PM. We stayed at a cabin right by a river. We were pretty hungry when we arrived, so we warmed up some food we had brought and ate dinner before deciding where to hike the next morning.
