Comet Falls Hike

I hiked up to Comet Falls at Mt. Rainier today with my friend, Pam.  It took us about 3 1/2 hours to get there and back.  It's only about 3.6 miles, but with very steep & rocky terrain.  The views of the falls were amazing.  Definitely a must-do hike.

It started out not too bad with some steps, but quickly got harder.

Pam on the first bridge crossing.  This was over a ravine with some falls..so beautiful!

This was our only peekaboo view of the mountain.  Gorgeous sunshine!

Now this new stepladder was a bit treacherous.  It was recently built to circumvent a sinkhole that closed off the trail last year.  Going down was way worse than going up.

Second bridge.

Pam & I

The funny thing is, we thought this was Comet Falls until someone mentioned that the real Comet Falls was further down the trail.  Not sure what this one is called, but it was pretty.  The sun was shining right into my face, so the picture isn't very clear.

We sat here to eat our lunch & enjoy the sound of the rushing water.

Our first glimpse of Comet Falls.  We ended up hiking nearer to the base.

Pretty rainbow

Close up of the rainbow & bottom of the falls.

I thought this rock was cool.  Taken on our way back down.

This was a weird, giant mushroom.

The water looked more blue on our way back with the sunshine.

One last shot of Pam on the bridge.
