My friend, Michele, and I took a little break from the madness of the holiday season to take a hike in the Newcastle area. We found the trail head without incident, but for some reason got completely turned around and missed the trail to the falls. Luckily we ran into a nice gentleman & his two rather large dogs who helped us find our way. The falls were small, but very pretty. I think the highlight of the day was running across some baby mice (we thought they might be chinchillas, but I'm not sure). They were adorable & so tiny, just a couple of inches at most. You just never know what you'll find on the trail.
