Today we started our vacation. Hurrah! It's been a year since we last flew anywhere for vacation. We started our day dropping Winston off at the kennel. He was so sad when we left. We have to walk by him as we go to our car and he whined and then barked at us. It made us feel extremely guilty. But he gets to spend 7 days hanging out with the other dogs in the "day care" area. We even saw another Corgi there. We're sure he'll be fine even if he doesn't!
We drove to the airport in record time. No accidents, no traffic jams. And checking in was easy. We even breezed through security. I still don't know why they make us take our shoes off but there you go. We even had time to get some lunch before the flight. Corey really branched out and had a turkey Panini (minus the red peppers) from La Pisa café. I must admit the food there was pretty good except it cost us $30 for three sandwiches, two bags of chips and 3 pops-almost as bad as theatre prices.
This is the first time we've flown Virgin America. Pam told me her family really likes them so I was optimistic. It started off well-they gave out chocolate candy for Valentine's Day. The interior of the plane was different-purple plexi-glass and pink lighting. Maybe they think it is more "hip"? We even took off on time and the flight was relatively smooth-we hit a few spots of turbulence. There were TV screens in the headrests which provided a variety of things to view (TV, movies, music videos, and games) or music to listen to. We brought our own headsets but you can also buy them for only $2 (which is a great deal compared to other airlines). They even served us drinks on our 2 hr flight. But no snacks-not even a bag of nuts. In all I thought they were one of the better airlines and we would fly them again. Corey sat next to a lady from Australia (which we didn't realize until the end of the flight). She told Corey that she gets kangaroos in her yard sometimes-cool!
After picking up our rental car (it even came with Navigation which we weren't expecting-score!) we headed to the hotel (Embassy Suites). We're in room 238. I usually prefer an upper floor, but it's ok. We're nowhere near the ice machine which is always a plus. Those things can be loud.
We drove into Yorba Linda for dinner at Ruby's Diner. The food was yummy-I had mini TURKEY burgers. Ha! I survived day one of NO BEEF. Not sure how long that will last. Now we're just hanging out for a little bit and then we'll take the kids down to the pool. We will head to bed early tonight as we have breakfast at 7am and then the shuttle to Disneyland at 8am. Tomorrow will be a long day. We did see that the weather will be dry tomorrow so we're happy about that. The rain is supposed to hold off until Monday.
